BFA Senior Project

I have a strong passion for all the arts; performing and visual. I especially love to dance and to paint. I wanted to show through the medium of oil paint the beauty, motion, and expression of dancing, and that each dance genre evokes a different emotion. Thus as I approached each painting I had a different intent for each piece. I had this in mind as I chose the colors costumes, composition, shapes, and position. My hope through this presentation is to convey the arts in an uplifting and inspiring way.

Sculpture-Martha

I did this sculpture to represent Martha Graham one of the pioneers of modern dance. If you are familiar with Martha's choreography-this pose is one of her famous moves.

Life Painting

For life painting we painted models from life. We did a head study every class. These are just a few of my favorites from that class.

Parson's head drawing class

These drawings are from Brother Parson's head drawing class. We experimented with varying styles including: line only, white and black charcoal on canvas, shadow only, and light only.

Persuasion

This is another illustration that is for the book Persuasion. It can either be the book cover, or one of the illustrations inside. It depicts the emotional moment when Ann reads a letter from Captain Wentworth stating that he still loves her.

dance in motion

With this drawing I really wanted to create a feeling of the elegant movement that you get from dancing.

book cover

I really enjoyed this piece. I did both the illustration and the graphic design for this book cover. I wanted to show the climactic event in the book where the trolls are turned into stone just as the sun hit them. It was humorous telling the boys who modeled for me in the photo shoot that I was turning them in to trolls--all except little Bilbo Baggins of course.

the beginning

I am so excited as I start this art blog. I feel that the day of procrastinating setting up this blog is over, and now I have a place to direct people as they want to view my art. My hopes are to share what talents I have been blessed with, inspire others to start creating, to have meaningful conversations about the arts in general, to keep myself motivated to persue the arts at times that are hard, and to start selling what art I have-I guess that is every artist's dream. :) Enjoy and let me know what your thoughts are.

dancers

I love drawing and painting dancers. My sisters and I are dancers. I love to show the beauty of the human figure through dance.
